happy new year!
new year's day is so complicated.
first, tradition calls for ringing in the new year with festivities that last well past every one's usual bedtime. for many responsible adults this includes the consumption of handcrafted adult beverages, beer, wine and it's vivacious cousin champagne.
the next tradition is to make a resolution of some sort. it's always best to wait until after the effects of the alcohol are gone, any hangover has worn off and one feels fresh and chipper before stepping on the slippery slopes of resolutions land.
many will have no problem making their resolution for this year. the threat of having one's drivers license revolved for drunken driving has a sobering effect when comes to resolutions.
other will go with the stalwart trio - lose weight, quit smoking, exercise and get in shape and statistics show that by march they will be putting the same resolution on the to-do list for next year.
if you haven't made your resolutions yet, might i suggest something a wee bit more creative. there is no rule saying the a new years resolution needs to be boring. resolve to bake a different pie every sunday afternoon and have friends over to enjoy it. resolve to say hello to one stranger a day. resolve to do one thing a a month you have always wanted to do - or at least resolve to start a list of things you've always wanted to do.
or resolve to not resolve!
happy, healthy, prosperous and peaceful new year to all!
